Taking a taxi is the easiest way to tour Seoul because there are A LOT of taxis in the city.  Of course taxis cost more than buses or subways, but it is still cheap compare to other countries.

So, let's get to know

How to take a taxi in Seoul, Korea

The basic taxi charge in Seoul is 3000won, which is around $3.

There are few different colors of taxis,
For example,
Orange, Silver, Light Blue, and Black.
The basic charge is same as long as you don't take the Black one.
Black taxis cost more than the others because they offer better service.

Taking a taxi
1. If you can see red sign (it says '빈차' that means empty)on taxi's front window, you can take the taxi by shaking your hand.  OR
2. You can call a taxi by an app calls 'Kakao Taxi'.  You can choose your start point and destination in the app, so you do not need to tell your destination to your driver again.  BUT not like Uber, it does not set your fee to get to the destination, and you have to pay when you are taking off.

The payment
1. Pay with cash, always works, no worries.  Look at the meter that shows your fee, and pay with Korean 'won'.
2. If you have charged T-money card already, you can pay with the card.  (T-money card is for all public transportation in Korea.  It also offers discounts when you take a bus or subway, so I totally recommend to use it)
3. Credit cards and Check cards are also acceptable.

Tips are NOT necessary.

I recommend not to take a taxi on rush hour, you will have to pay a lot.
The traffic is horrible in Seoul, so please be aware of the worst time to take a taxi, which is around 5:30P.M. to 7:00P.M., especially on Friday.

Hope this post is helpful! :)
